Is a brand new and original game for the SEGA Mega Drive and Genesis, to be released on cartridge sometime in the future. A 16bit story driven adventure game heavily inspired by sci-fi and martial arts movies from the 80s and 90s. While not trying to emulate any existing titles we're taking some inspiration in games like the TMNT beat' em ups, Battletoads, Prince of Persia, and Mortal Kombat. Even some more retro and obscure games like The Way of the Exploding Fist and The Way of the Tiger on the C64 and ZX Spectrum.
Our main hero is a humble teen from a small country where he was abandoned as a baby by his father. He grew up poor but happy helping his mother on a farm and making friends on the streets. Little does he knows about his past. A past that will come back to change everything not only with answers, but also with a great burden that will take him on an adventure out of this world. When a beautiful alien being reaches out to him with an enigmatic message just moments before his mother is kidnapped by an strange-looking chinese bandit, our hero will need to travel all around the world and beyond to solve a mystery, save his family, his planet, and maybe, just maybe, the whole galaxy.
The story will be told throughout the game by beautiful 16bit cutscenes and the actions and dialogues between the characters.
Kung-Fu UFO presents a very nostalgic mix between platformer and beat' em up genres that will feel both fresh and new while taking you through several different worlds.
We hand-crafted a fighting engine (one of the core mechanics of the game) with kicks punches blocks and combos that is very intuitive and can be simple or complex, depending on what the game needs and how you decide to play it.
You will also be able to explore the levels and solve some puzzles in order to advance.
Bonus stages will include different vehicles and mechanics that will keep the game's pace varied and interesting. There will also be very challenging boss fights.
The game is being programmed mostly in Second Basic with several specific routines coded directly in Assembler.
We also use custom software developed in PC and Amiga for managing graphics, stages, color palettes and much more.
The pixel art graphics are created in Gimp and Aseprite either from scratch or based in original hand drawn concept art.
The music is made in Deflemask Tracker and read by the console using the VGM2 driver.
Sound effects are created both using DAW or generated by code.
